Roof Safety

Once again the importance of roof safety has been highlighted. At a recent court case in Manchester a private company received a substantial fine of nearly half a million pounds because an employee fell through a fragile roof panel and unfortunately was killed. This was a legal case resulting from the relatively new corporate manslaughter act.

Safety has long been an issue for all the UK manufacturing companies responsible for producing roofing products, in our case translucent GRP rooflights. The National Association of Rooflight Manufacturers (NARM) publishes a detailed guide setting out their recommendations for appropriate rooflight combinations to ensure they have the status of non-fragility and the expected service life providing they are correctly installed.

Hambleside developed their premium product StepSafe to meet the most stringent demands of any specification. StepSafe also has the added advantage of being a low carbon product. For further information about our rooflights please follow this link.

Safety is of paramount importance and unfortunately within the building industry accidents do occur, our duty is to help minimise the risk wherever possible- all of our GRP rooflights are classed as non fragile when assembled in accordance with the recommendations of NARM and we can supply detailed test reports confirming they comply with the testing procedures set out within ACR[M]001:2011.
