Gorillas go green at London Zoo!
There’ll be no monkey business about energy efficiency and climate change when the gorillas move into their exciting new home at London Zoo at Easter.
The roof of the nearly-completed Gorilla Kingdom exhibit has been fitted with Hambleside Danelaw’s ground-breaking Insulator GRP thermally efficient rooflights.
Recognised by the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation last year for the ‘outstanding innovation’ behind them, the Insulator rooflights incorporate a transparent insulation in the form of an advanced honeycomb technology that allows the maximum possible natural light into a building. This will obviously be enjoyed by the gorillas, colobus monkeys, rainforest birds and monitor lizards that will be sharing the zoo’s top new attraction for 2007.

It has been announced that Hambleside Danelaw has won a third prestigious Green Apple environmental award, this time for the Stormforce 225 high performance GRP valley trough range. The Award will be presented to the Group in November 2006.
As part of the Group’s commitment to the environment and sustainable development, Hambleside invested well in excess of a £250,000 in new technology and plant. As a result, major changes to its manufacturing processes were introduced which both reduced waste and replaced virgin raw materials by replacing them with materials which had been generated from recycled products. This removed 40 tonnes plus per annum of virgin raw material from its production requirements. In addition, new adhesive technology was introduced replacing the traditional material which contained isocycanates for one which is safer during the manufacturing application.
With a life expectancy in excess of 45 years these valleys are really cost effective and make the most efficient environmental use of the raw materials required for manufacture.
The Group is now able to recycle these valleys at the end of their service life, which is part of its policy of taking environmental responsibility for the products manufactured.
All Greenhouse Gas Emissions arising during production and delivery are offset the Group operates a carbon neutral policy. |
