Green RecognitionIt was 2001 when the Group, faced with the closure of its local landfill site, began to embrace environmental policies which would eventually gain recognition from, amongst others, the Carbon Trust and the Green Organisation. Hambleside Danelaw has now won a Green Apple and Heroes award for five consecutive years. These awards are given annually in recognition of those companies, councils and communities carrying out projects that enhance the environment. The Green Organisation is an independent, non-political, non-profit organisation that recognises, rewards and promotes environmental best practice around the world. The Green Heroes judges commented that as manufacturers of GRP products, Hambleside Danelaw are aware of their environmental impact and have been actively reducing their impact for many years and are now operating in a carbon positive manner by sustainable practice and carbon offsetting, supporting environmental projects across the world. Quality Standards Hambleside has begun working towards the BES 6001 Environmental and Sustainability Standard and is currently accredited with BS EN ISO 9001:2000 for quality, BS EN ISO 14001:2004 for environment and BS OHSAS 18001:2007 for safety, which exceed the mandatory requirements for BES 6001. Summary Developing strong environmental policies has been good sound commercial sense, it has made the Group more efficient and cost conscious, benefiting our customers as a result of keeping costs low and providing innovative “green” products supported by independent assessments, quality standards and awards.
